Lee Mark Talks Inflation, Cost Of Ramen, And Chow Mein In House
posted (May 27, 2025)
And while they spoke yesterday - today Lee Mark Chang spoke from the Opposition side. It's his first time debating the budget - and first time in the House as an elected member. And to celebrate, he brought some curry-flavored Singapore style chow mein.

Lee Mark Chang, Area Rep. Mesop
"This budget is putting most people under pressure. It is the largest budget in Belizean history, almost 1.8 billion dollars. Yet, it fails to deliver meaningful relief to the majority of Belizeans. This government was swept into power on a bold slogan "Everybody fi win." But Madam Speaker, five years later, the truth is clear. Only few are winning. The poor and working Belizeans are carrying the burden. Let's talk about the cost of living, Mr. Speaker, which comes to spiral out of control."

"Since 2020, prices of basic goods - rice, beans, flour, chicken, cooking oil - have increased by more than 20%. And yes, even ramen has gone up. You have to have a special skill, Mr. Prime Minister, Trust me, I worked 30 years to be where I am and I know how to cook."

"I cook myself too, Prime Minister. Oh yes, I brought some Singapore chow mein, curry flavour. I do everything at Chon Saan."
