The Minister of Tourism also spoke today. He praised the arrival numbers from the first few months of 2025 but lamented the state of cruise tourism with the lack of a proper cruise port. He also spoke about new technology they are planning to integrate into the ministry.
Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism
"Mr Speaker, the first four months of 2025 have also shown encouraging results. Record numbers for January, February and April with March, which was marginally done. However, we are beginning to see signs of a slower green season."
"This is a signal that the geopolitical climate is beginning to affect travel and tourism, so we must stay nimble and agile. The good folks at BTB are here, so airlift development is one of the most crucial pillars for the sustained growth of our industry."
"Quite simply, if it is difficult for travelers to get to Belize, we cannot continue to grow as a destination. Despite global aviation challenges, including fleet shortages, Belize has made real progress over the last four years."
"Mr Speaker, the cruise sector is also evolving. In 2024, Belize welcomed approximately 900,000 cruise vistas to our shores, but the growth in cruise has been stunted by the luck of a mainland docking facility."
"I want to signal that now is the time for us to begin to prepare for the exponential growth that is coming our way. The office is going to leave on a Belize TPM. You with us? This close to a billion dollar project will transform both cargo and cruise and create many opportunities for our Belizean people."
"For 2025, there are other eras of our tourism agenda. Belize will redefine its marketing approach by embracing innovation, technology, and adapting to the digital environment. At the heart of our new strategy is Belizean Intelligence, where local expertise meets advanced AI solutions like Ava AI, allowing us to deliver smarter, more personalized messaging that connects with the travelers."
"We are shifting our focus from simply raising awareness to driving real conversions, ensuring that Belize isn't just on their minds. Belize is on their itineraries."
