At the top of the news we showed you how the teachers union staged a sickout, well, the unionized medical workers at the KHMH are also getting ready to take a stand.
That union - which has been negotiating pension. payments with government, quote, "with little to no tangible progress...is (now) left with no choice but to take action on behalf of its members."end quote.
And that action means industrial action starting in earnest on Friday with what they call Level 1 Industrial Action, including peaceful demonstrations, and a go-slow.
Their release wants that if no progress is made, the Union will move to Work to Rule and issuance of a 21-Day Strike Notice.
And while the union plans industrial action, a late evening letter from the Ministry of Labour warns that as an essential service they have to first go through very specific procedures. The letter says "while the proposed activities may be framed as progressive protest measures, they fall within the scope of industrial action and are deemed unlawful if initiated prior to satisfying the legal requirements set out in the Act. We therefore urge the Union to formally report the dispute to the Minister, as required...and to suspend any intended actions until the statutory procedures are complete. To support an amicable resolution, the Labour Department is strongly recommending a mediation with all relevant parties."
