The Saint John's College University had its first Graduation Ceremony this morning. The school calls it a historic milestone as, quote, "the first graduating class of the only Catholic university in the country."
With up to 30 undergraduates SJCU held its graduation ceremony alongside the junior college.
It is a major milestone for the institution and here are the highlights from the SJC's president speech.
Dr. Mirtha A. Peralta, President of SJC
"This year is especially historic because for the first time in our 1038 year history we celebrate the inaugural graduating class of St Johns College University. This milestone is the realisation of a vision laid decades ago by father Richard Buwler and Father Leo Webber and pursued by generations of Jesuits administrators, faculty and visionaries a vision to expand our mission beyond Jr College and to provide accessible quality Jesuit higher education to Belizeans seeking to advance their knowledge, skills and leadership in a rapidly changing world. And so today we pause to honour this first cohort of university graduates
whose name will forever be etched in the history of St Johns college. Our first university graduates stand as pioneers their success marks the beginning of a new era not only for them personally but for the entire nation of Belize their achievements symbolises hope, opportunities and the promise that St Johns College University will continue to shape future leaders for decades to come."
