In April of 2020 three cops were placed on interdiction for coercing two individuals into performing a sex act and recording the incident. Those police officers were charged criminally and put on trial before a jury of 9 persons this week. Those officers are Leslie Martinez, Jason Shaw and Anthony Villamil. But before the trial could commence today with Justice Candice Nanton overseeing the case, the charge was withdrawn against Villamil. And the other 2 accused, Shaw and Martinez were represented in court by Leeroy Banner.
But, two of the jurors knew Banner, and another said she was fearful of the case - so the trial judge had to dismiss 3 jurors. After dismissing them, the judge was forced to abort the trial against the men, and empanel a new set of jurors for October 20th. Villamil's charges were dropped because he gave police a statement into the 2020 incident which implicated the other 2. Only Martinez and Shaw will be facing trial for willful oppression.
