Last night we showed you how Minister of Health and Wellness Kevin Bernard was one of the founding owners of ISECURITY in 2021 - along with his former Orange Walk Deputy Mayor Ian Cal, E- Governance CEO Jose Urbina and Orange Walk Town Administrator, Alberto Guerra.
We stated clearly in the report that Minister Bernard and his fellow shareholders sold their shares in August of 2022 - and that he was not a part owner when the company reviewed a 13.5 million dollar contract from the Airports Authority in December 2024.
But, that didn't stop Bernard from issuing a statement this morning. He says, quote, "I have noted with deep concern the post published today by 7 News Belize on their social media platform and referenced in their broadcast, suggesting that I currently have an interest in, or involvement with, ISECURITY LIMITED...
- I have had NO financial interest, stake, or involvement in ISECURITY LIMITED since August 15, 2022.
- Since that time, I have had NO involvement in the management, operations, or contractual dealings of ISECURITY LIMITED."
To that, Bernard adds, quote, "I strongly reject the insinuation by 7 News Belize that I "dodged" their interview attempts. I was forthright in my response when advised that their inquiry concerned airport security contracts in which I have no involvement." End quote.
We note that we twice asked the Minister for interviews at face to face encounters and twice he declined. It is certainly not out of bounds for us to ask for his comments on contracts of public interest involving a company owned by his close political associate, and a company which he recently co - owned.
We'll continue reporting on this story.
