But it's still not clear how those "national and international standards" led the Global Fund to a man who is facing some heavy allegations of financial wrongdoing.
Now, we're not trying to beat up on Jorge Rodriguez - and we stress he has not been criminally charged or convicted, but he was pointedly linked to some very serious banking malpractice at the Toledo Teacher's Credit Union.
So, did the Global Fund ask for a reference from his former employer at the TTCU? The General Manager told us today that Rodriguez was among a group of persons fired frpm that branch, and, no, he didn't get a recommendation:
Leopoldo Romero, General Manager, Toledo Teachers Credit Union
"In the part of hiring I will leave that to those authorities. In the part of the credit union we terminated all of those employees that were involved in this scheme. He was one of the first three who got terminated and so the authorities there need to take a look at what they did. They at no time called the office or called me as a reference as the past employer so I don't know what process they implemented but certainly he was terminated."
We did reach out to Rodriguez, who told us via email, quote,"To date, I have not received any formal allegations from TTCU or any competent authority. I also wish to note that I left the credit union on amicable terms and remain bound by a confidentiality agreement with TTCU. As such, sharing any information publicly could potentially be used against me."
