A man escaped with minor injuries after the jet ski he was riding exploded on Saturday morning in San Pedro. While the police and fire departments are still investigating, we asked the police whether any charges can be levied since the jet ski was a rental.
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"On Saturday, 14th June, at approximately 10:30 a.m., police responded to reports of an explosion in the lagoon by Gas and Go gas station in San Mateo area, San Pedro. The initial investigation revealed that the operator of the jetski, Jeffrey Molina, had just refueled the jet ski at the gas station, and shortly thereafter there was an explosion which caused him to be flung into the water. The jet ski then drifted a bit and subsequently caught fire. Fire personnel were summoned to the scene."
Reporter:
"The level of injuries?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"He received minor injuries."
Courtney Menzies:
"Can there be any charges levied on - it wasn't his jet ski, right?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"It was a jet ski that belonged to a company."
Courtney Menzies:
"So can any change be levied on them for maybe not properly checking their equipment or anything like that?"
ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer
"Certain that will require that inspection to be done, which leads to that conclusion."
