19 Bullets for William 'Cat' Usher
posted (December 18, 2006)

A man was murdered on his doorsteps last night. 30-year-old William Usher, known to most as 'Cat,' was returning to his home in an alley off Wagner's Lane when someone called his name. "Cat" Usher went to see who it was and that is when he was ambushed by a second assailant, this one armed with a 9-millimeter gun. Police say he was shot 19 times in his upper body and they have recovered 14 expended nine-millimeter shells from the crime scene. Lorna Flowers who lives in the alley told us off-camera that she heard ten shots.

"I heard about ten but other people claim they heard more than ten. I was counting when I heard the first one, it was afterwards. I heard about ten shots but people said they counted more than ten; people say they counted about 15 shots.

I didn't really see what happened. All I know is that we were in the house and I went to lay down in my daughter's bedroom and my daughter came with some they had bought for her and she went inside and hollered for me and told me that they had shot Cat. I said 'oh my God' and then when I listened I heard his lady hollering for me and asking for help. I ran outside and so I saw her, she is pregnant right, so I came outside and thing and I started to hold her and then we went towards the body and when we went there, he was already dead.

According to her, he was coming home and he had already reached there when the person hollered his name and turned back. He turned back and went to the person who had called him right there. That is what she is telling me right. I didn't see that part because I was already in bed, I was already laying down.

I didn't think something like this would ever happen to he. I didn't think something like that would ever ever happen to he."

"Cat" Usher was home at the time with his pregnant common-law wife Audra Andrews who wished to speak to us today but at the insistence of police investigators, she didn't. A post mortem was conducted this afternoon and police are questioning suspects.
