And while that encounter leaves a deep impression, there are ongoing concerns
about the Santa Rosa settlement and the clearing of a vast swathe of land in
the Chiquibul National Park by Guatemalans. These pictures were collected by
Will Maheia of the PNP on a recent visit to Santa Rosa. It shows areas cleared
and crops planted.
According to the Amandala as much as 6,000 acres of land in the Chiquibul have
been cleared by Guatemalans. Government has not refuted that claim.
