He performs tonight in Cayo but instead of resting up, reggae artist
“Turbulence” has been busy all day. He is here for the unity concert
organized by Synergy Promotions and Youth for the Future. So while he’ll
perform on the stage, part of his mission here is outreach and intervention
and getting across the message to stop violence.
He took it to youths at the Hattieville Prison and Bird’s Isle
today. Keith Swift has the story.
Keith Swift Reporting,
He is here to perform but today Turbulence took his message of unity to prisoners
and youths. We met him at the Bird’s Isle signing autographs for St. Michael’s
College students and interacting with ghetto youths – in particular this
victim of gun violence.
Turbulence, Reggae Artist
“Music is not all about just dancing and having a good time. It is
all about the message in the music and Turbulence only sing messages, I only
write scriptures in the music and I am so happy that Jah blessed me with the
talent and people really know me so much no, to really get the message out there
to them so I just give thanks and praise.”
Keith Swift,
What is your message to these youths?
Turbulence,
“Edify yourself, knowledge is power. Stay focused, set your goals,
reach for them. Determination, perseverance, be humble, but not bullied –
fight for what you want.”
The outreach was organized by Youth for the Future.
Diane Finnegan, Director – Youth for the Future
“It is all the message. The sad thing is, and not so sad because as
young people it is about dancehall, it is about enjoying themselves, having
a good time. But if you really focus on the message that these artists bring
in their songs, it is powerful.
At Youth for the Future now we are saying I want to know, we want to know
what it is that is creating this anger and hurt within themselves that they
are lashing out at each other, that they are taking away our sons, our daughters,
and they are leaving us grieving. We want them to know we care and we want to
put a real end to it.”
Erwin X,
“The show is not just about the bashment. It is a reggae show with
a message for our people to say that we really want the violence to stop. Keith
the show is named ‘Unity is a must’ and indeed unity is a must and
all of us must now play our part to tell our young brothers that we need the
violence to stop.”
Turbulence performs tonight at Cahal Pech and tomorrow at Club Next.
