It was a case of road rage that ended with gunplay and the arrest of
24 year old Bert Vasquez. Tonight we have the two sides of the story. We begin
with taxi driver Cecil Gill who told police that around 7 am on Thursday he
was driving his van on Vernon Street enroute to his home on Logwood Street –
when he got into argument with Vasquez. Vasquez accused Gill of tailgating him
and that led to harsh words. But it got serious when gill says Vasquez followed
him to his home and then threatened him with a gun.
Cecil Gill, Says Bert Vasquez Pulled Gun on Him
“Over BS man, a simple back and forth word between two men and I thought
it was over. But the guy followed me and then left and came back again. He got
out and he took out a black gun and he pointed it at me, direct in my face.
We were about 15 feet apart. He pointed at me. So at that time I told him he
came way into my neighbourhood to pull a gun on me.
A few minutes later, 4 or 5 minutes, I saw a police vehicle coming from
there and I saw his car turn this corner here, from off Magazine Road, with
another police vehicle following him. They came and as they approached I got
out of my vehicle and I explained to the officer that this guy followed me and
this guy came all the way over here and pulled a gun and pointed it at me in
a threatening manner. At that time I was afraid but I did not show it. But my
life was in danger there and then. I was shot before for no reason at all, once.
I have three young kids to live for.”
Keith Swift,
You thought he was going to use the gun?
Cyril Loague,
“This guy had all intentions. Why he didn’t use the gun, I don’t
know but he went wherever he went and he got his mother and his mother gave
him a gun to come after me and she accompanied him.”
Bert Vasquez has been charged with aggravated assault. And because
it was with a weapon Vasquez was denied bail.
