Man Problems & Gun Play
posted (August 7, 2008)

Tonight Belize City Police are looking for Rosalie Williams after she reportedly broke into the home of Nordette Spain and threatened her with a knife and gun. The aggravated burglary occurred around seven thirty last night. It is a troubling case because the women have known each other for the past five years, but it has been stormy and the best we can determine is that, “man problems” are what motivated the animosity. But what makes this story disturbing is that whatever jealousy or anger may have been caused in the past the situation has now escalated to the point where lives are being seriously threatened – and not just with words.

In fact Nordette Spain and Rosalie Williams were in court on Monday. Why? Well Williams complained to the police that Spain had threatened to throw acid in her face. Spain pleaded not guilty and was released on two thousand dollars bail. Still, Spain told me that she never expected Williams to show up on her door steps last night with a knife and gun.

Jacqueline Godwin,
And why is she after you?

Nordette Spain, Victim of Aggravated Assault
“I can’t tell you. You have to go and have a talk with she to find out the other side of the story, to find out if I will live longer or what because I feel like my life inna fear.”

And it is because of that fear that twenty six year old Nordette Spain asked 7NEWS to conceal her face. Spain who is a single mother of two young daughters was home with her children when she was assaulted.

Nordette Spain,
“She came and she said to close the f___ing door. So I closed the door and then she said to go in the bathroom. She said who and me was here and I said me and my two baby are in here but they are sleeping, please don’t hurt them.”

Spain says because she was assaulted because she pleaded not guilty.

Nordette Spain,
“She said I won’t hurt you unless you cooperate. She said I did ‘lone fool. I asked what and she said why did I plead not guilty. I said because I didn’t do you anything Rosalie and I talked to her in a nice way and asked her not to kill me. I asked her to put down the knife and let us talk and if she wanted some money. I told her to take the money, see the purse on the table, and she said I don’t no money and I will f*up you. She said I don’t know who I’m dealing with and like that. I don’t know what to think.

She took out the knife first from her left foot in her pants or I don’t know how she had it there and then she asked if I wanted her to juck me up with the knife because she said I was not cooperating. So I asked cooperated with what and then she asked if I wanted her to shoot me with this gun. I told her please don’t do it and then she asked if I wanted her to go in there and do it first and then come out here come deal with me. I asked her to please don’t do it and I was crying and pleading to her and noh care how, she said she will come back and she said if when I have the next court case and I plead not guilty, she will come kill me.”

Nordette Spain is scheduled to reappear in court on September eleventh.

Today she says she is scared for her life. According to spain the ongoing turmoil has affected her young family’s life. Spain says she only wants to be left alone and appealed to authorities to intervene before it is too late.

Nordette Spain,
“We move move move – we moved so much time that I don’t think the government could afford for us to move like that so. We have to find all that money to move from place to place to place. We can’t be moving all the time. I want justice or something be done to it.”

It’s left to be seen if any relevant authority will to intervene.

Belize City police say they are looking for Rosalie Williams in connection with the aggravated burglary.
