Chester Williams Vindicated
posted (December 22, 2008)

No one rose fast through the police ranks faster and no one’s fall was as public and sudden but now Superintendent of Police Chester Williams has been vindicated. On Friday, the attorneys for Williams, Ellis Arnold and Edwin Flowers appeared before the Belize Advisory Council to appeal the decision of the Security Services Commission. In August, the Commission found him guilty of three disciplinary violations and took the decision to demote him to a superintendent of police.

Williams maintained his blamelessness and appealed his case to the Advisory Council. Chairman of the Council Richard Stuart confirmed to 7NEWS that his appeal was allowed and he has been re-instated as a senior superintendent of police. It is expected that he will be refunded the half-pay that he lost while he spent six months on suspension. According to his attorney Edwin Flowers, he has gotten no word of the result of the appeal, and can only comment after he does. Same for the Commissioner of Police who told us he cannot comment until he gets official notice.

It is unclear where Williams will go next because he had been transferred to desk duty in Belmopan after coming off his suspension.
