Gunman Robs Tourist Village Vendor
posted (January 22, 2009)

Twenty six year old Wendy Herrera, a resident of Orange Walk Town and a business woman from the tourism village has every reason to be upset tonight. Just after 5:00 yesterday evening she was held up and robbed of her personal belongings and cash. Herrera and her sister had just left the tourism village and were about to get into her car that was parked on the Marine Parade across from the light house when someone tapped her on the back. When she turned around, she was confronted by the muzzle of a gun.

Wendy Herrera,
“I just felt like somebody touched my back and there was this tall skinny guy and he showed me a big gray gun and he told me to give me the purses and I was surprised. This was the first time it happened to me so I said what, I made up my face and I tried to touch the gun and I don’t know or something and then he hit me with the gun and he said, give me the purses and I had to give him. Working hard everyday and trying to save, trying to be someone. It gets me angry and that is why I wanted to slap the gun but he is a man, he is taller than me and so he just hit me.”

The sisters were robbed of approximately fifteen hundred dollars cash in US and Belize currency, a Sony digital camera valued at fourteen hundred dollars, a two way radio, a cell phone and jewellery. The robber who was well dressed and wore braids then made his escape in a cream Toyota Previa; his getaway driver waited while he robbed. Tonight Wendy Herrera is appealing to the police to increase security in the area.
