Allison Hinds: The HIV Awareness Crusader
posted (September 8, 2009)

HIV and Aids is also a concern for soca singing sensation Allison Hinds. She’s here to bring in the tenth with a special concert, but she’s also an HIV awareness crusader. You may not know it, but Allison Hinds is very much a part of the Live Up Campaign, a regional effort to combat HIV and Aids. So it was not a surprise to find her at Alliance Against Aids today speaking about another passion of hers and that is what we can all do to get involved in the fight against HIV.

Allison Hinds, Soca Singer
“I am very much involved in the fight against HIV and Aids and at home in Barbados, I am one of the Live Up Heroes for the Live Up Campaign and actually since I’ve been here I’ve been made aware that the Live Up Campaign is also happening here in Belize. So that is a wonderful thing and I definitely wanted to come and talk and find out what’s going on and the issues and the challenges that we are up against.”

Jacqueline Godwin,
“How impressed are you about the activities occurring here in Belize to combat HIV and Aids?”

Allison Hinds,
“I am very very happy. I am glad that this group of people seems to be very in turn with the whole thing and very caring, because they care, they care about other people, they care about people who are HIV positive, who are still facing stigma, who are still embarrassed to admit or to come out because of all the horrible things that can come at them from all directions; from family, from friends, from people that don’t even know them.

So I am glad that there are these caring people who are willing to put themselves on the line and to go out there and to help with the fight against HIV and Aids because it is something that is taking our young people, it is taking our old people as well. It is something that discriminates; it doesn’t matter your colour, it doesn’t matter how much money you have – none of that matters when it comes to HIV and Aids and we all have to be in this fight together.”

Hinds believes the Live Up campaign has been a success because it not only has the participation of well known celebrities but ordinary people who dedicate their time to serve those who are affected by HIV and Aids. For more on Live Up visit ILiveup.com.
