posted (September 22, 2009)

Two teenagers have been arrested for Friday afternoon’s armed robbery at Dave’s Furniture World on Basra Street. 18 year old Dwayne Evelyn and a 13 year old minor were today jointly charged with two counts of robbery.

The men are accused of storming into the store shortly after 1 pm and pointing a gun to the head of the store’s owner Lelani Habet. She says she handed over $305.75. That is all the money that was in the cash register and they also grabbed a Samsung cell phone from an employee. The robbers then fled but a short while later police detained three men.

Today in court Dwayne Evelyn and the 13 year old both pleaded not guilty but bail was denied because the offence involved a firearm. Evelyn was remanded to the Hattieville Prison and the teen to the Youth Hostel until October 22nd. The third suspect who has been identified as Kevin Abraham was in police custody but he somehow got released by mistake. He is now being sought.
