World Cup Within Reach
posted (October 7, 2009)

Belize is two tournaments away from playing for the world cup in cricket. Our 14 man national cricket team left Belize today for Santiago Chile where they will compete in the ICC Americas Division 3 Championships. We will be playing against Brazil, Peru, and host country Chile. A win will advance the team to the division two championships and closer to the world cup. But they first have to win in division 3. We saw the team off at the airport and spoke to a very confident team member Robert Cassasola.

Robert Cassasola, National Cricket Team
“Well we feel very good right now and we will try and come back with the big victory. We will 100% win.”

Elston Wade, National Cricket President
“We have a team of 14 members and two officials and we will be playing against countries like Brazil, Peru, and Chile.”

Keith Swift,
“What are our chances?”

Elston Wade,
“I think our chances are excellent. I am almost certain, I am pretty much certain, that we will bring back the championship for Belize.”

Robert Cassasola,
“First one we went last year February we played in Argentina and it was against almost the same teams but we lost by three rounds, we lost the cup by three rounds but this time we will go and we don’t lost the cup, we will bring back the cup.”

Elston Wade,
“This is the first leg of an opportunity to play in an international cricket championship. This is the first leg and if we win this leg, then we will be promoted to division two and if we win division two it is to division one to play World Cup Cricket.”

The tournament runs from October 9th to the 12th.
