The Green Standard
posted (October 15, 2009)

Yesterday was World Standards Day. This year’s theme was “tackling climate change through standards.” It was observed in Belize with an open day at the George Price Center. So what does standards have to do with the environment? That’s what we asked.

Keneisha Stuart, Consumer Protection Liaison Officer
“Theme this year is tackling climate change through standards and we’re greening Belize through standards. The significance is that we’re showing how standards can be used to make the environment better, to reduce carbon footprint. So we invited government departments, the Department of Environment, NEMO, BEL, BNE, UB, and BELTRAIDE to show different aspects of how you could use standards in your business.

What the open day is about is giving practical examples, it is taking it is taking it from theory to practice. This is what you can actually do at home, in your business, or at schools to be more environmentally friendly and save some money, to find a niche in the market and have your business become a market leader.”
