There is an update to report tonight in the case of transgender student Jose
Garcia. As we’ve been reporting, the 19 year old was kicked out of the
Baptist School of Adult and Continuing Education in Belmopan last week because
he dresses effeminately and has admitted to using the female bathroom.
Well the news tonight is that Jose Garcia is back in school. He told us today
that the he has been told by the principal Norman Willacey that he can return.
But reports are that his reinstatement may be only temporary since the school
has sought legal advice.
It was news to officials from the Ministry of Education who were still waiting
for a response from the school. While the Ministry has been in consultation
with the school –the school went ahead and asked Jose Garcia to withdraw
last week and offered him spiritual counselling.
