Man Shot near Queen's Square Market
posted (December 7, 2009)

There was another broad daylight shooting in Belize City today – and this time it happened at the crowded Queen Square Market. Around 3:30 – 28 year old Osmin Garrido was at an outdoor market stall at the corner of West Collet Canal and Iguana Street when two men came up – one of them attempted to rob him and shot him in the process. The market was crowded at the time and those we spoke to remarked that they thought it was dynamite.

But it wasn’t – it was a bullet from a 38 revolver. The men ran off and two square blocks away – a resident saw when they threw their weapon in a drain in front of Happy Days pre-school on Curassow Street. Police also caught a suspect in the area who they believe was circling back to check on what had happened. 28 year old Garrido was shot in the chest and is in the Operating theater at this hour.

And that’s not the end of it. Going into the evening, after 5:00 pm, another man Dwayne White – also identified to us as Dwayne Lopez was shot to the back. He is 28 years old and was on Supaul Street when he was shot. We’ll have updates on these men in tomorrow’s newscast.
