And while the case of Russell Jewett has captured the spotlight, another US
fugitive has been caught in Belize; he is 53 year old Martin Patrella, a professional
chef wanted in the United States for parole violations. He was taken to the
magistrate’s court today where he was deemed a prohibited immigrant. Magistrate
Edd Usher waived the fine and ordered that Patrella be removed from Belize.
That means he will be kept in prison until US authorities come and take him
back to the States.
He was on parole for a conviction of aggravated burglary. He violated his parole
and was to appear in court for a hearing on January 5th 2008. Instead he went
on the run and entered Belize illegally through Mexico on February ninth, 2008.
He was picked up at a home in Lord’s Bank last week Thursday.
