Galvez Family Responds to Del Cid Report
posted (March 5, 2010)

This afternoon the Galvez family called their own press conference to respond to this morning’s Ministry of National Security event. As expected, the family says that they are dissatisfied with the report. Chris’s father Martin Galvez and his aunt Yolanda Schakron say the report is incomplete, plagued with inconsistencies, and inadequate.

Martin Galvez, Father
“I have not seen a recommendation in here saying that they should interview the witnesses, bring back Aguilar, arrest the police officer, put some credibility into the statement of the eyewitness, take him in for an interview with the DPP or somebody. I didn’t see that in here.”

Yolanda Schakron, Aunt
“When I heard that report it seems to me like everything they did wrong with Chris case. Now you tell me right, if you are a police officer and you see somebody on the ground gasping for air, you don’t have to do much first aid – take that person and try to stop the bleeding, put him in a vehicle and take him to the hospital. You know we just found out, we didn’t know that when Corporal Usher arrived on the scene Christopher was still alive. We didn’t know that. We just found that out this morning. Where was Andre Aguilar while Chris was gasping for air? How can you leave your best friend to die? I don’t believe anything they say.

When I heard this morning that my nephew lived through that whole time gasping for air, and nobody helped him. You know how that makes me feel? That makes me feel terrible. That makes me feel sad. I still cry every night for Christopher. I have to explain to this baby where his daddy is. Sometimes he asks me when will daddy be coming, when is he coming back.”

Martin Galvez,
“I am definitely not satisfied with this report. I am sorry. It is my son who was murdered, executed for no reason at all. Just because three of his rich friends wanted him dead. Three or the untouchables of Belize wanted my son dead. That is my they killed my son, hired somebody to kill him, they couldn’t do it themselves. They had to hire somebody to kill him. It is sad.”

Yolanda Schakron says she is now convinced no one will ever be charged for killing her nephew. But she says won’t give up and is partnering with the mothers of Teddy Murillo and Jason Coombs.
