Two young men were gunned down in Belize City last night. Both of them
were named Kevin – one 23 year old Kevin Lino and the other 26 year old
Kevin Casanova. They were both security guards at a resort in Placencia –
Kevin lino is the son of Dangriga Magistrate Clive Lino and Kevin Casanova,
a father of two young sons. Gunmen were waiting to pounce on them when they
got to Casanova’s home on Faber’s Road last night. The 7News team
has been on the story since then.

Late last night 23 year old Kevin Lino’s body arrived at the Karl Heusner
Memorial Hospital’s morgue in the pan of a police mobile. His body was
taken into the morgue where it was later joined by the body of 26 year old Kevin
Casanova who died while receiving treatment. Both men had been shot and the 
murder scene was on Faber’s Road in front of Casanova’s family home.
The two friends had just parked their vehicle when the increasingly familiar
sound of gunshots rang out in the neighbourhood sometime after 9 pm.

“He came out of the vehicle and he wasn’t out of the vehicle
five minutes good when the person or persons, whosoever did it, came out.”

“I heard the shots gaan off and when I heard them, I got on the floor
low because it was some powerful shots and I told my younger sister that that
was Kevin who got shot because that came from over the house, over yah. When
I came out, I saw a young man on the ground and I mi the holler and saw my next
niece and I told her if Kevin and she said yes, Kevin get shot. But when I went
to look at the body I told her this is not Kevin, this looks like a young named
Shackel but she says he was named Kevin. I didn’t know the young man name
Kevin too.”
The young man dead on the street was Kevin Lino – a friend of Kevin Casanova.
He had been shot in the head and died at this spot on the street. Kevin Casanova
was shot while running for cover inside his home.
Tyree Flores,
“My sister says he heard one shot and when she heard the shot, she 
run and my brother was behind her but coming inside my cousin, everybody was
trying to run for cover, and when she and her boyfriend were trying to lock
the door she screamed out at her boyfriend no because Kevin was outside. And
when she looked, all she says she saw was a gunshot behind his head and then
she bawled out for my next sister. All she said was Delonie, Kevin get shot.”
Ritamae Cabral,
“I think it is from back on they shoot him because he got shot to
the back of the head and once in the chest. But I don’t if it is from
back on the shot came from the back and exited through the front because he
was running up the step. I come inside and I saw all the blood in the house.
So apparently when he got the shot he ran inside and he dropped by the room
door.”
Tyree Flores,
“My sister says my brother laid down on the floor just moaning taking 
his last breath.”
Kevin Casanova died on the way to the hospital.
Tyree Flores,
“I went to the hospital and on my way going to the hospital I was
so emotional and seeing my brother and the state how my brother was in, all
I could do was cry and all I am asking, I know my brother is not innocent. I
am not saying he is innocent but they came way at his gate, at his house.
My brother didn’t get a chance to go on a machine, nothing, nothing
at all. He died and left two kids. We have to struggle with my nephews now.”
Kevin Casanova was only visiting his family – specifically his two sons
- on Faber’s Road. He was scheduled to return today to Placencia where
he worked as a security guard. They can’t think of why someone wanted
him dead.

“From January he went to Placencia to work and he come like once a
month.”
Tyree Flores,
“My brother just came Monday and I asked him why you came her Kevin,
you see a lot of things happening. He says sister, I didn’t come here 
for that, I came here for my baby. I told him Kevin please hurry go back, please.
He said yes sister. Yesterday he told me he would go in the morning. I told
him to please try hurry go, you know people want to do you thing, please hurry
go. My brother did never got a chance to go back on his job. My brother was
trying to change, just for his kids. Now my two nephews are without a father.”
Kevin Casanova was killed almost two years to the day his younger brother was
killed in April of 2008. An even sadder coincidence is that he and his brother
were killed in almost the same spot.
Tyree Flores,
“They took away my next brother. I don’t have another brother
in my life and I am asking to the public, please stop. This is getting out of
hand. My mother, she can’t take this. All I am asking is just please.
All I want to see is justice for this one. The first one, my brother have two
years and one week, the day my brother got shot and no one, no one is at prison
for my brother’s death. This one I just need to try see justice for my
family. We just need that.”
Kevin Casanova died leaving a 2 and a 4 year old son.
