Aubrey’s Alleged Killer Charged
posted (May 17, 2010)
A massive funeral was held for slain basketballer and teacher Aubrey Lopez in Belmopan yesterday. Close to two thousand people came out to the UB Gymnasium in Belmopan to see him off. And tonight there is a major development in his case. Police have charged one man for his murder. He is 22 year old Paul Jex a resident of #46 Cran Street in Belize City.

The 17 year old minor - who was caught in the car along with Jex - told police that Jex shot Lopez in the head and then kicked him out of the car on Prince Street. Jex appeared in Magistrate's Court where no plea was taken and he was remanded until June 23rd. The minor who initially cooperated with police has not yet been charged - and as we understand is already changing his story to police. When police intercepted Lopez's stolen car near Queen Square market an hour after the murder, 5 men were inside, 3 of them escaped. Police found a Smith and Wesson 38 revolver inside.

Jex's family says that it is a wrongful arrest because Paul Jex - they claim - only got into the car after the crime happened - which is why he also did not run form police at the Queen's Square bridge.
