City Shoot 'Em Up
posted (June 14, 2010)
And while those Cayo residents we spoke to were truly stunned by the brazen-ness of that attack, Belize City residents are coming to terms with the increasingly apparent reality that operations Jaguar's fragile peace is more past than it is present. The city registered a string shootings; since Friday three men were shot, but none of them fatally. The most recent shooting occurred this afternoon just after 12 in the Lake Independence area near the riverside. It happened near to Lawrence Avenue under a house where three men were playing dominoes. Two younger men came around and they seemed to have been familiar to the men playing dominoes. But when one of those younger men took out a gun, two of the three men dashed into the river for safety while the other, Jason Ryan Wade was shot several times.

Monica Bodden spoke to an eyewitness who asked to appear off camera.

Eye witness
"All I can say that happen is that I was in my room watching TV when I just hear the shooting. I hear like water is splashing so I came out and I see a young man who just got shot, walking through the alley. So I just came and assist him and ask him who shoot him, but he didn't say anything. We just assist him in getting a ride to take him to the hospital. I can't say who shot him or what happen because I was inside my house."

Monica Bodden
"So they were just hanging out under this wooden house playing dominoes?"

Eye witness
"When I came out I just see the young men who were hanging out in the yard coming out from in the river. Everything had already happen. All we did was to help the young man. We got a ride for him to take him to the hospital then the police came and did what they had to do."

According to that eyewitness, Jason Ryan Wade was shot in the hand and chest. Police say he is listed in a critical, but stable condition at the KHMH....
