Library Summer Camp Has Some Fun
posted (July 15, 2010)
Yes, you may be thinking it's just another summer camp, but today we found a bunch of energized kids at the Leo Bradley Library Summer Program. They had a mini sports day, as a break from their usual activities of arts and crafts. We spoke to the organizer who told us about the fine line between literacy and hyperactivity:....

Emaun Hyde
"What would a typical day consist of for the kids?"

Sarah Castillo, Camp Organizer
"Well they usually come in, we have our devotion , we do little arts and craft and we give them lessons, we give them tours and teach them basically just about the library."

Emaun Hyde
"Why do you think it was beneficially for all the students who came out this summer?"

Sarah Castillo, Camp Organizer
"Well, I think it was beneficial because it not every day that you get to learn about the library, you come in and use the books yes, but you don't know actually what goes on behind the scenes and that's what we want the kids to experience, what goes on daily here."

Christian Noble, Participant
"We learned to love, to get team work and always work together and not always be fighting and stuff like that, it's very educational."

Emaun Hyde
"What was your favorite part of the class?"

Christian Noble, Participant
"Arts and craft."

Emaun Hyde
"What all did you make?"

Christian Noble, Participant
"We made some paper mache and some book marks and picture frame."

Emaun Hyde
"Tell me what did you learn at the summer camp?"

Kaliyah Martin, Participant
"How to make friends and always to be good to others and do not fight with each other."

Emaun Hyde
"What will you remember most?"

Kaliyah Martin, Participant
"I remember most like how to read and learn how to be nice."

Emaun Hyde
"Did you make new friends?"

Kaliyah Martin, Participant
"Yes."

Emaun Hyde
"And you enjoyed it?"

Kaliyah Martin, Participant
"Yes."

Emaun Hyde
"Did you guys enjoy you summer camp?"

Participants
"YES."

Although the summer program concludes tomorrow, there will be an interactive reading session from July 19th to the 23rd at the library for children between the ages of 5-13.
