Family Says Colin Lord Didn’t Have To Die
posted (July 19, 2010)
Colin Lord was shot to the head a month ago on June 19th. He somehow survived and despite being given only a 20% chance of surviving, he held on and was even showing improvement. But quite suddenly last week Friday he slipped away.

No post mortem has yet been conducted to determine what the cause of death was but his family is outraged - they say he didn't have to die and that more could have been done to save him. Emaun Hyde spoke to his father, Albert Leslie, who told us more but asked to appear off camera for safety reasons:.....

Emaun Hyde
"Do you blame anyone or hold anyone responsible for what happened?"

Albert Leslie, Father of Deceased
"Well, I don't know who to blame, we don't know who shot our son to be honest, all we know is that we took him to the hospital, I think they tried their best with him, but at the same time I think healthcare was a bit rough on us, you know because I think they are all about money first and then comes the patient and that has to stop in this country because a lot of people are dying because of negligence from the hospitals."

Emaun Hyde
"Do you believe your son death could have been avoided?"

Albert Leslie, Father of Deceased
"Yes, I think it could have been avoided."

Emaun Hyde
"How so?"

Albert Leslie, Father of Deceased
"From two ways, from Belize Healthcare Partners and from Belize City hospital, because if they didn't put him out of Belize Healthcare Partners I think, he would have live, they should have taken more care of him when we took him there, they could have put more interest into his state, the state of his condition, but they didn't do that. You know you go and talk to these people and they ignore you, they ignore everything that you tell them or you ask them, you know these people they don't care about anybody."

Emaun Hyde
"Are you resentful for the fact that there has been absolutely no arrest made in the case?"

Albert Leslie, Father of Deceased
"Well, yes but you know you can't blame the policemen for these things because it's like they say if you don't have the tools to build a house you can't build the house."

Emaun Hyde
"What hurts the most about this entire situation?"

Albert Leslie, Father of Deceased
"Well, everything hurts because they kill my son and he wasn't a bad guy he is a cool dude, well maybe they can prosecute someone."

Lord, was originally admitted to the KHMH where he received surgery and treatment. Shortly thereafter, he was transferred to the Belize Healthcare Partners where he underwent another surgery, but when the family got behind on their payments, Lord was sent home.

He was being treated at home, and had begun moving, talking, remembering things, and even joking around. After about a week, his family noticed something was wrong and took him back to the KHMH, where they said no space was even available in the ICU. It only took about a day at the Karl Heusner, before he passed away. Funeral Services will be held later this week.

We called Public relations officer for Healthcare Partners Collet Montejo late this evening and he told us he would have information for us in the morning.
