Trailer Home Honey
posted (August 27, 2010)
When we left you last night - the CYDP's Bee Capture unit was still at work at that home on Boots Crescent. Well, the not so good news is that they only got one of three hives out of the house and have to return to get out the other two.

But the good news is that they did capture the queen form the other hive and a whole lot of honey. Bee Catcher number one Troy Lewis told us more:...

Troy Lewis, CYDP Bee Capture Unit
"We actually end up to get the floor up, get the hives out, find the queen and put her in the box. At the same time like what I explain to you, the process is we have to get the larvae like this that have the eggs and cut it and space it the same way how the nest was. So the queen will stay there and everybody is going to follow her and stay right in the box. Right now we are extracting the honey out of the hives, we got 4 bucket of honeycombs. Actually that is how we usually do the process; cut all the cells then squeeze it out all the honey, after that we strain it 2 times then we put it on the market. we have to have a certain level especially with the health department, we have to make sure everything is good. When we are finished with all of that we just bottle it up and it's ready for sale."

They expect to bottle the honey by next week. They will also extract the other two hives that are in the house.

The unit has received a number of calls since our story telling them about active bee colonies in other communities.
