Celebration Outline
posted (August 27, 2010)
With The Mas Camps and last week's song competition, clearly the celebration season is in full swing even though it's not even September yet. On Sunday it officially begins with the formal opening at the place where it all began, St. George's Caye.

Director of the Institute of Creative Arts - Greg Vernon told us about that and discussed some highlights that will follow....

"We are now going to St. George's Caye to do the launch of the September Celebrations, we are pretty much looking forward for that because we going back to the old capital being one of our first capital, we will be doing a short program out there having the Youth Connection Band and having Tanya Carter doing I Am Belize along with Shawn and Berne and also looking at the archaeology department being out there also. Last year we declared it as a historical site, and this year we are making it more permanent and so we are very much excited in going out to St. George's Caye. The calendar is very heavy, every weekend after this there will be something for Belize to do. We are looking for a great king and queen out at MCC working with carnival. that will be fantastic, we are hoping that we will attract at least 1000 masqueraders and on looker to come out and give their support to their favorite king and queen. Again we have the 10th celebration coming up; the whole battle of St. George's Caye celebration, looking at 9th night for carnival. So there is a lot to do I think you should and we are very happy to say that the playbill is out and also the calendar and you can get your calendar or playbill here at the Bliss center or at the house of culture or you could visit any of the tourist department or your city or town council in your area where we would be happy to distribute these free of cost."

We'll have coverage of the St. George's Caye opening on Monday's newscast.
