25 year old American, Steven Capepanakis who arrived on the Carnival Dream yesterday, was fined $1, 200 today in the #3 Magistrate's Court after he pleaded guilty to possession of 8.9 grams of cannabis.
Magistrate Linden Flowers, who imposed the fine, told Capepanakis that he must pay forthwith; otherwise he will serve seven months. Capepanakis paid the fine and he was allowed to go free - presumably having also to fly back - since the cruise ship left around 4:00 pm yesterday - by which time he was in police custody.
Capepanakis was busted around 3:10 pm yesterday. He was at the dock in Tourist Village getting ready to go on boat to take him to the cruise ship when a plastic bag fell from the left pocket of his pants. A very observant police constable saw the bag fell and retrieved it. It contained 8.9 grams of cannabis. After a back and forth with the police, Capepanakis was then detained and charged.
