Man Charged for Shooting Cop
posted (September 9, 2010)
Nineteen year old Lloyd Elijio a construction worker who allegedly shot at two police constables and injured one of them, was charged with two counts of attempted murder when he appeared today in the # 5 Magistrate's Court today.

Elijio was also charged with dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm.

Magistrate Albert Hoare explained to him that he will not take a plea because the offences are indictable. He also explained to Elijio that the court cannot offer him bail because of the nature of the offences.

He remanded Elijio into custody until October 13.

The incident occurred around 8:08 p.m on Tuesday, September 7.

Thirty-four year old police constable Ebelio Itza reported that he and twenty five year old police constable Abel Mendez were on mobile patrol on Partridge Street when they saw two persons of dark complexion riding on one bicycle at the corner of Morning Glory Street and Peter Seco Street.

Itza said one of the persons jumped off the handle of the bicycle and ran into a yard when he saw the police truck approaching. He said the other person who was pedaling the bicycle drew a pistol from the waist of his pants and fired several shots at him and Mendez and he returned fire.

Mendez was shot in his left arm and at the back of his right shoulder but Itza was not hurt. Mendez was admitted to ward at the KHMH where he came out of surgery about an hour ago.

We note that Valda Bodden's son Kevin - who she made a heartfelt plea for yesterday - has not been charged - and that's because he escaped from police custody…
