Godfrey Gives It To The Government
posted (October 6, 2010)
He's been called "traitor", "vendepatria" and other less charitable terms that we can't repeat on this broadcast, but Ashcroft-allied attorney Godfrey Smith is continuing with his campaign to smear Belize's name with Digicel - an Irish company that's been invited to invest in BTL.

On Monday, October fourth, Smith wrote Digicel his third cautionary letter warning senior executive Richard Fraser not to invest in BTL.

In this latest letter he apprises Fraser of the fact that both the Chamber of Commerce and the National Trade Union Congress of Belize voted against Social Security making an investment in Telemedia.

Smith also laments to Fraser that he - Smith - was headlined as a "Traitor" in the Guardian newspaper and says this and other events are indicative of the, quote, "unstable vindictive, oppressive and arbitrary nature of the government with which you are contemplating doing business."

And - in what we can only interpret as an act of catch-all desperation, for good measure, Smith throws in the kitchen sink as well…by snipping an out-of-context quote from this news broadcast to add to the bad vibes brew. In line with Smith's consistent disregard for context while claiming to adduce fact - it suggests that this newscast characterized the nationalization as "crazy" - when that was only taken as an adversarial position in an interview. We are amused, but could only pretend to be flattered if we were collecting fees as handsome as Smith's.
