Palma Accused, Fam Says He Did Not Do It
posted (October 19, 2010)
Twenty year old Calvin Palma, a laborer of T-Street who allegedly robbed 32 year old pizza delivery man Pablo Coc at gunpoint and stole his motorcycle and twenty six dollars and twenty five cents, was charged with robbery when he appeared yesterday in the Magistrate's Court. Palma pleaded not guilty to the charge. Magistrate Emmerson Banner explained to him that the court cannot offer him bail because the offence was committed with a firearm. He remanded Palma into custody until November 17.

The incident occurred around 8:10pm on Sunday October 10th. Coc reported to the police that he went to a home at 3862 Malcolm Street to deliver a pizza and when he got there he was told nobody ordered pizza. Coc said he went on Central American Boulevard and called the number of the person who ordered the pizza. He said the person who answered the call said to meet him at the corner of Trinity Street and Central American Boulevard. Coc said when he got to the location he was met by a man riding a bicycle who said his brother will pay for the pizza and to follow him. Coc said he followed the man and when he reached the first lane on Trinity Street the man pointed a pistol at him and told him to get off his motorcycle and hand over what he had. Coc said he feared for his life so he got off the motorcycle and gave the man twenty six dollars and twenty five cents. Coc said two other men then came up and tried to push him to the ground then they got on his motorcycle and drove away.

But the family of Calvin Palma says he is innocent and wasn't involved in that robbery. His mother and sister both vouched to Seven News that the young man was at home sleeping the time. Today they told us Palmer went to give a statement at the Police Station - after someone fired shots at him. But instead of police taking his statement - he was locked up behind bars.

Mother of Calvin Palma
"When I went to the police station a lady officer told me not to worry about my son because he is not wanted for anything. I told her if she is sure that they will not bogus my son and she said 'trust me' all that they want with him is for him to give a statement and then they will send him home early for tomorrow morning. I ask her if I can trust her and she said 'cross my heart you can trust me' so I call an officer from downstairs and he went o question Palma and Palma told the officer who it was so when I reach downstairs one of the police officer came to me and say 'don't worry about anything, we already have the man in custody' so the officer went and assure me that they will deal with. When I see Thursday pass I send to check on him and they told me Friday morning. Friday morning I send my daughter and they told her that they will let go her brother this afternoon. We were here until about 1:30 pm when I got a phone call from a police officer sergeant Oban, he said to please come to the station to identify your son in ID parade. I told him that I cannot walk."

Police later found the motorcycle that was stolen from Coc in an abandoned house on Partridge Street.
