The First Baby Of 2011

Covering the first baby born in the new year is a media staple - and that's because the baby symbolizes of a special kind of hope - the auspice of the new year coinciding with the blessing of a new child.

Baby Haylie Tun - was born at 3 in the morning on January first and weighed in at eight pounds -2 ounces. But this year's child is extra special: her family is all the way form Chan Chen, which is the northern-most village in Belize; and hers was not straightforward delivery; there were complications. But today her parents told Monica Bodden she is a healthy newborn.

"We had an emergency in Corozal and they sent us to Belize."

Monica Bodden
"So your wife was going into labor at what time on Friday?"

Stevan Tun - Father
"From early but the delivery was complicated and the doctor had us waiting, we had to wait until he decide. We wanted to take her out and bring her to Belize, but the doctor didn't want so we had to wait. We had to rush on emergency to Belize City. when we reach Belize City hospital the doctor did a check and says that the baby will born normal, after that about 5 minutes the baby born."

Little baby Haylie was born at 3am on January first. She is a healthy little infant and weighed in at 8 pounds - 2 ounces.

"That was a very excited moment but we were frightened because of the emergency but it was a good time."

"I feel glad because my baby was born the 1st of January."

A basket of goodies - filled with huggies newborn products-was handed over to baby Haylie's family on Saturday morning.

"They gave me my gift that contained a lot of products from Huggies, papers, creams and they congratulated me and they took pictures."

She is the fourth child of Stevan and Refina Tun who resides in the village of Chan Chen - which is located in the Corozal District.

As for the gift basket, it was loaded with goodies, but no bottles, pacifiers, formulas nor nipples were included because as a baby friendly hospital - the KHMH asserts that breastfeeding is healthiest.
