On Saturday 27th November, 479 police men and women from the ranks of Constable to Sergeant sat the promotional exams countrywide. That's one in every three officers who wanted a promotion - but tonight, the results are out and very, very few of them earned it.
We'll have those results shortly, but first, some background. The exam is divided into two parts: subjective and objective each worth a hundred points and the passing mark for the objective is 65% and the subjective, 60%.
7news has been leaked a copy of the results, and they are abysmal. Of the 470 candidates, only 39 passed. That means only 8% of the test-takers achieved a grade equal to or above 65/60!
The constables showed the most promise - and that's not saying much: of the 293 who sat, 29 received passing grades.
Of the 109 corporals who sat, only four(!) passed - that's a passing rate of about 3.5%.
Of the 77 sergeants who sat the exam, six of them passed.
And even for those who passed, promotion is not automatic. There are other requirements which have to be met.
