The first murder for 2011 occurred last night in Belize City. The victim is an 19 year old who had his first brush with death over 3 years ago. But last night around 6:30, his killers took no chances and terminated MICHAEL ORLANDO MALIC, shooting him over a dozen times.
Monica Bodden begins her story at the morgue last night.

18 year old Michael Malic lay dead in the pan of this police pick-up truck, while his family and friends - all gathered around.
His body - riddled with bullet holes - was carted into the morgue on a stretcher and as that happened, this one man - couldn't hold up any longer - their quiet grief lost to the night.
Around 6:25 yesterday evening, Malic was standing by the window of this shop - located on Bagdad street - when he was gunned down by two men who exited out of a vehicle.
According to some neighbors, both men were wearing a mask over their head.

"Sometime around 6:25 pm he was on Baghdad Street. What we gather from friends and relative is that he was about to visit a friend when two men exited a black vehicle and they opened fire on him, Mr. Malic was hit apparently 13 times."
Malic died on the spot.
Neighbors say they heard about 21 gunshots ring out last night.

"How many was fired? I would not comment on that but I can tell what investigators observed on his body is 13 apparent gunshot wounds."

"I will just say all over the body."
The 19 year old young man was no stranger to the law. He was known for a number or robberies. And in May of 2007, a then 15 year old Malic was shot and nearly killed on Raccoon Street when assailants sprayed he and Meldrick Flowers in an assault that left Flowers dead.

"He has been on the news on several occasions. I can remember one such occasion was one associate of his was killed Meldrick Flowers, at that time he himself was injured. I know persons were charge for it but apparently the charges were dropped and unfortunately for him nobody paid for that crime. I can say that he has been arrested on several occasions for various crimes and it's just an unfortunate situation."
No one has been arrested and charged for that shooting.
As regards the 2007 slaying of Meldrick Flowers in which Malic was almost killed - the two accused were set free because witnesses didn't want to testify.
