There is mystery surrounding the death of a 59 year old Burrell Boom resident tonight.

The body of 59 year old Hector Reyes was found floating in the river behind the "Olde River Tavern" - which is on the corner right at the entrance to Burrell Boom.

His family told us more.

Beresford Reyes, Brother of Decease
"We really don't know what happened."

The body of 59 YEAR OLD Horace Reyes known as Sparkles was found floating here on the Belize River at around 8:00 this morning. His brother Beresford Reyes who identified the body said he had what looked like a cut wound to the face:

Beresford Reyes, Brother of Decease
"I physically looked at him and saw a wound in the back of his head and a wound on the side of his mouth, so that's basically what I noticed physically. The rest of the body looks pretty much normal, clean."

"He was found yes without his shirt, in the water, he had his pants on and his tennis was still on, he had a fishing line in his pocket, these were things that they found on him because he used to go by the river and fish sometimes."

The lifetime Burrell Boom resident was last seen on Friday night near his home - and his family had been looking for him since Saturday morning:

Beresford Reyes, Brother of Decease
"Friday night my son was at a party just behind the house that he loves behind the school and he told me he saw him walking on the street which was normal for him, he usually take his walk at night and in the day time. That was the last time my son said he saw him."

What happened between that night and time of death is not known - and right now the family can only look cluelessly to this river for answers.

Beresford Reyes, Brother of Decease
"He was not a 100% mental stable, he had a little problem but he never really harm anybody, every knew him, he just live his life and it's a little bit hard to see the way that he went."

Dr. Hugh Sanchez's post mortem examination was inconclusive; he could not come up with a cause of death. But, according to the family, the doctor ruled out drowning as a possibility. Police say it is an open case and they continue to investigate.
