University Lecturer Remanded

Twenty-seven year old Leon Leslie, a counselor and lecturer at the University of Belize, who the police alleged had a bullet proof vest, became an inmate of the Belize Central prison today after he appeared in the #2 Magistrate's Court and was charged with keeping a prohibited material.

Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser explained to him that the court cannot offer him because the offence falls under the Crime Control and Criminal Justice Act. She remanded Leslie into custody until February 18.

The discovery was made on January 16.

The police reported that they went to Leslie's residence at 7 Linda Vista Estate, located at mile 2 on the Western Highway. According to the police, when they searched a vehicle at the residence they found a bullet proof vest.
