Belizeans Fugitives Nabbed In Mexico With Major Firepower
posted (February 24, 2011)
Two notorious Belizean criminals who have been on the run from local law enforcement, are facing serious charges tonight in a Mexican Federal court.

Reports to 7news are that Errol 'Butchie' Haynes and Anthony Barrow were nabbed by Mexican soldiers in the volatile central west pacific coastal state of Nayarit. Nayarit is bordered by Sinaloa, Jalisco and Durango, three Mexican states where Mexican police have been waging an ongoing battle against drug trafficking and organized crime.

Haynes and Barrow were arrested last Sunday, February 20th, along with Mexican national, Juan Miguel Alvarez Gomez when a Mexican military patrol unit raided a home in the city of Tepic.

The men were found in possession of an arsenal of prohibited firearms and ammunition, which included: Three AR-15 Caliber .223, Two AK-47s, 12 loaded magazines and 383 rounds of ammunition. The trio were also in possession of a Ford pickup truck with expired license plates. The arrest of the two wanted men came as welcome news for Belizean law enforcement:….

Jim McFadzean
"What are these two men wanted for here in Belize?"

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"Well offhand I can tell you that we have issued a wanted person poster September 9th of 2010 for Anthony Barrow - for the arrest of Anthony Barrow, he was initially arrested and charge for keeping unlicensed firearm and ammunition but by some mysterious reason he escape from lawful custody before going to court so we did issue a warrant in his name for his arrest and we also went out a wanted person poster. The other man in question- Errol Haynes Jr was recently charge for drugs trafficking. He was charge for a device in Ladyville that they found in his house - a silencer device and I can say that he have at least two other charges in front of the court right now."

Jim McFadzean
"Was a warrant - an international Interpol issued for their arrest by the Belizean police authorities?"

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"One for Barrow was out but none for Mr. Haynes. Mr. Haynes was on bail as far as I know."

Jim McFadzean
"Will the police authorities request an extradition of these two men?"

Fitzroy Yearwood, Police Press Officer
"Well that I cannot answer but sure that these will face charges in Mexico because Mexico has their own sets of laws and they were obviously caught with weapons over there and I don't know if Ii am in a position to say that they will be requesting that but maybe in the future we will look at something like that."

The three men appeared in a Mexican Federal court today and were jointly charged with the possession of firearms and ammunition, licensed for the exclusive use of the military armed forces of Mexico.

Interestingly, Haynes has a pending court date in Belize next week where he is on trial for possession of a prohibited sound suppressor, among other charges.

But now that he's in the hands of Mexican Police for a serious offence, best guesses are that he won't be home anytime soon….
