Slain Chinese Man’s Son Back In Police Custody: Was It Patricide?
posted (March 9, 2011)
Was 53 year old Chinese Businessman Bing Chang Zhao stabbed to death by his own son? According to our sources, police believe that is a possibility and they have taken the 21 year old back into custody and are re-interviewing him at this hour.

Now that does not square with what President of the Belize Chinese Association and translator Edmund Quan told us last night. He indicated that Bing Chang Zhao's son was released because investigators were seized of evidence which indicated that some kind of forced entry had been detected.

Today, the police press officer Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood came to our studio to say that wasn't so; there are no signs of forced entry and Chang Zhao's son remains a person of interest.

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Press Officer
"First of all Quan did not comment on behalf of the police department, let me just state that. Actually on the contrary to what he said, the son is a person of interest, for his father's murder. As a matter of fact he is being re-interviewed as we speak. He also commented that, the upstairs or the second floor is where someone could have entered. My investigators on the scene are saying that there are no signs of forceful entry. So I just want to clear that up and we will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of this crime and if we see it fit that anybody be charged, when we see it fit actually, that person will be charged, and brought in front of the court. We do not know if that's the actual murder weapon, but I know that the scene of crime personnel remove two knives from the actual scene itself. We are not certain if they were used and at the conclusion of the post mortem, we cannot say if those were the actually the weapons that were actually used. But we do have other scientific tests that we will put the knives through to see whether or not they were actually used in that crime."

Monica Bodden
"So the son is detained at this time?"

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Press Officer
"As we speak, he is being re-interviewed, we are using a different translator because we don't want the translator to believe that because you have translated certain things to our investigators, you have that right to go and make a public statement on behalf of our department."

Jules Vasquez
"Now he said something about pints being found upstairs, which he implied points to something that there might have been some burglary element."

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Press Officer
"Well, Jules like I said, our investigators are saying that there was no signs that there was a burglary. That is way the son remains as a person of key interest in this investigation."

Jules Vasquez
"How much of a factor in the investigation is the argument they had the night before?"

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Press Officer
"A big factor, a big factor. Actually he still hasn't cleared himself as to what was, what the argument was about, the contents of the argument, but at the same time we have to also look into the fact that because nobody forcefully entered that building, who else could be a suspect? We are looking at all different angles, but at the same time in no way have we indicated to him, that he had been cleared from being a suspect in his father's murder."

Monica Bodden
"You know if the wife of the deceased was at home that the time?"

Sergeant Fitzroy Yearwood, Press Officer
"We are not certain about that."

53 year old Chang Zhao was found dead in the store-room at Ming Ming's Store on Saturday morning; he was face up, and bathed in blood with a cut wound across his face. His son says he found him dead inside the storeroom.

According to information reaching our newsroom, police stumbled unto a major piece of evidence when they conducted the post mortem and found a clutch of hair in Chang Zhao's clenched fist. We'll see how that plays out as the investigation progresses….
