Hernandez Also Appeals
posted (March 9, 2011)
The court of appeal also looked kindly upon an appeal by 28 year old Hilberto Hernandez who was convicted of attempted murder of his step-brother Edgar Wiltshire and was sentenced to 17 years.

Hernandez's sentence was set aside and substituted with a sentence of 12 years with the stipulation that it should take effect from April 30, 2010 when he was first sentenced.

The judges of Belize Court of Appeal were of the view that Hernandez's sentence was excessive. The incident occurred on December 30, 2007 outside of a bar in Corozal Town. Hernandez stabbed Wiltshire in his right shoulder and left side of his chest. The stabbing was due to an incident which had occurred when they were boys. Hernandez was not represented by an attorney. The Director of Public prosecutions Cheryl Lyn Vidal represented the respondent.
