Deadly Weekend Started With Friday Night Murder
posted (March 21, 2011)
The deadly weekend that we told you about at the start of the news - got underway with a murder on Friday night. It happened in the lake Independence area where again, a shooter had his victim marked for death.

7 news was on the scene:..

Monica Bodden Reporting
It happened on Black Orchid Street - in the St Martin's De Porres area around 9:30 on Friday night where 22 year old Brandon Gibson was gunned down, shot to the back.

He was riding this bicycle - when it happened. He died on the scene and his body was placed behind a police pick-up truck and carted away to the morgue.

Meanwhile, police officers processed the murder scene. They were no expended shells found in the area. His cousin told us about when they got the news:

Nathan Underwood - Cousin
"In the night about 9 o' clock I receive a text stating that Brandon got shot and that he died. I call a couple other people to confirm and then somebody went to the morgue and confirm that it is Brandon. Now I just recently came from the morgue and the state that I see the man in I know that it is an untimely death but there is nothing we can do. We have to just try to bury the man and try have the last of him."

Gibson was shot once to his back.

Nathan Underwood - Cousin
"From what i understand - I got this form the police, the police state that the man was juts riding by and that he gets a gunshot. I can't say if it is so or not so, that is not my thing. But what I would want to say is that I would want to appeal to the government of Belize to change that rule that they have about police not picking a person that is injured unless that person is dead because most of the time it is the police that reach on the scene first before the ambulance and the police would not render assistance. If you have your fingers moving or your hand moving, they might just start using the yellow tape because that is the rule or order that they have. So we are asking the people in higher authority to change that. the police might not have training to move a person that is injured but give them some training so that they can be able to assist a person if they reach at the spot before the ambulance."

Monica Bodden
"Were there reports that he was still alive after being shot?"

Nathan Underwood - Cousin
"Well, according to passersby, the say that the man was still moving and asking for help while the police is drawing the tape, but then again that is the police order."

His cousin told us, Gibson was not known to be a troublemaker and says his death is a total shock to him.

Nathan Underwood - Cousin
"He is my cousin but I took him as my son because the way how we go I took care of him as a teenager. I try to show the man the right direction, the man try to get his job, he has his police records that he took out - he was supposed to start to work at 7 this morning at Biltmore. Like I say I really don't see any reason that anybody would have to want to kill Brandon because I don't know him as that type or person. I don't know him as any gang man because I wouldn't allow him to do that, so as far as I can say Brandon was one of the most calm and most loving person in this neighborhood - everybody around here can tell you that they got a favor from Brandon."

22 year old Gibson was supposed to start his new job today - at the Belize Biltmore Plaza.

Nathan Underwood - Cousin
"The last time I see Brandon was like two weeks ago and the last time that Brandon told me is that he was trying to get out a police record so that he can get a job and level off himself. That's the last thing that he told me. To be honest I think I would just want to leave everything to Jah because like all of us have to die and I think Jah will just take care of everything and everything that happen - Jah know about it so I just would want to say blessed be and let Jah take care of everything."

No one has been detained for this murder….
