Guilty Of Knocking Down A Man
posted (March 23, 2011)
A jury of 5 men and 4 women deliberated for about 4 hours today before it found 40 year old Mark Conorquie guilty of causing death by careless conduct when he knocked down 59 year old Maurice Sedassy in July 27 of 2009, between miles 19 and 20 on the Northern Highway.

The jury's verdict was unanimous. The trial judge, Justice Herbert Lord, has deferred sentencing until Wednesday, March 30th in order to give Conorquie time to prepare a plea for mitigation.

Sedassy, a resident of Sand Hill, was knocked down while he was riding a bicycle going from mile 20 to a Chinese shop at mile 19 to sell bottles.

Conorquie, who was driving a green dodge Ram pickup truck, was travelling from Carmelita to Belize City. Sedassy received injuries to his body and his neck was broken. He died on the spot. One eyewitness Bridgette Moody testified.

Conorquie testified and said that it was Sedassy who swerved into the path of his vehicle. Conorquie was not represented by an attorney. Crown Counsel Trienia Young represented the prosecution.
