posted (April 18, 2011)
Murder number 37 for 2011 is not just another statistic, not just another old beef turned into blood on a street corner; the victim is an 84 year old - former Prim Minister George Price's younger brother, Samuel Price.

Price lived alone at a home at mile five on the northern highway -and on Saturday, his nephew Clement went to check on him as he normally does.

But he found that wooden and metal doors on the second floor of the building had been broken into. From there he went upstairs and found his uncle dead - here's footage from the crime scene:

Monica Bodden Reporting
84 year old Samuel Price lived alone at this home - called Tarpon Cove - right after the Haulover bridge at mile 5 on the northern highway.

On Saturday morning, it became a crime scene as friends family members and police gathered in the yard.

After some hours of collecting evidence inside - police brought the body out at almost 11:00 am - as it was taken to the morgue one more murder mystery arises, who would want to kill this 84 year old and why?

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"The police visited the residence of Samuel William price 84 yrs. old - mile 5 1/2 on the Northern Highway. Mr. Price resided at this place alone but on a routine basis every Saturday his grandnephew and one of his nephew would take him shopping and Saturday when they visited the home, first of all when the visited the home - the grill door that they usually enter was pried open and the wooden door also there was signs that it was tampered with or broken. Upon entering the house the found the lifeless body of Mr. Price slouch in one of the bathrooms over a tub with apparent signs of violence towards the head. They immediately call the police. Police responded. We tried our best to remove certain prints, we lifted some finger prints from the scene that we are currently trying to find a match for. We have persons detain for questioning but as far as any arrest we haven't made any in this recent case of murder."

"Because he lived alone, family members cannot ascertain whether anything was stolen. I can tell you that police remove a license 30/30 rifle and some ammunition that were still on the scene when we arrive."

Reporter
"Does that have anything to do with the assailants?"

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"No, that is license to the victim Samuel Price. Mr. Price had a license for the 30/30 rifle. After our forensic report we would be able to answer whether or not. But we remove several items from the scene that we believe could have possible been used in the crime."

Information suggests that the elderly man's home had been burglarized over a dozen times:

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"Mr. Price was a victim of previous burglaries; as a matter of fact a .38 was stolen on one of those occasions from him. Because this is a remote area and he live alone he made several reports of his home being burglarize. "

As noted in the story, the home was a target for thieves - and on one previous occasion about eight years ago, Price had shot and killed a man who he caught in the act.

Samuel Price was the father of three and grandfather and great grandfather to many more. He will be buried on Wednesday.
