Yolanda Schakron’s Vehicle Set On Fire
posted (April 18, 2011)
Belizeans for Justice President- Yolanda Schakron - had 2000 green Ford Ranger pick-up truck set on fire on Saturday morning around 2:30am. The truck was parked at Los Lagos Housing site- in her brother, 41 year old Mario Galvez's yard. According to Galvez he parked the truck around 9:30 on Friday night. Around 2:30 that morning he was awakened by a phone call from one of his neighbors - informing him that the truck belonging to Schakron's business - was on fire. Today Schakron told us this is the third vehicle that has been set on fire in less than a week and says she strongly believes she is being targeted by two police officers.

Yolanda Schakron, President - Belizeans for Justice
"On Saturday morning approximately 2:30 my vehicle which belongs to my business, my work vehicle was torch at the home of my brother in Los Lagos. It was completely destroyed; it was not insured for fire and theft because it was an older vehicle, so it was a total loss to the business. I am going to be real honest with you guys - on Friday I receive a phone call, because last week two vehicles were torch in yard her at Red House. I receive information from someone who is very credible that the same two police officers who are involve in murder of Christopher Galvez and Teddy Murillo are behind the burning of the vehicles. This happens on Friday, they told me this and they told me to be very careful. They said these two officers are very upset at you because you went and you stood up for Mrs. Murillo and they wanted Mrs. Murillo to be arrested and I said but why, I am just standing up for what is right and why are they after me? They said because they don't know far you are going to go and so on Saturday morning this vehicle was torch. The two vehicles that was burn last week did not belong to me, they belong to tenants at the apartment. It was a Camry and a 4 Runner. The Camry is very similar to the one that I use to drive and we don't know if that was what happens. This time when I burnt my truck for my business - it was horrible because my brother's house almost caught fire too. The other thing is that the fire engine took 40 minutes to get there. It was the neighbors who manage to save the house for my brother - they were helping. This is ridiculous, we are not safe; they are coming into our yards now and perpetrating these crimes. They are perpetrating crimes against us. We are just standing up because we know what is out there is wrong and we have to live in fear. We are becoming victims all over again. This is not right. This is outrageous. That police department has to be clean up. I remember the other day; Mr. Singh said that there were 28 officers that were going to be put out of the force. What happen? this is months and months later; we have not heard anything. This is wrong Belizeans need to start stand up and stop be afraid."

"You strongly believe that you were the target for these arsons?"

Yolanda Schakron, President - Belizeans for Justice
"Of course I am, it's me and what happen they target me and my brother because we work together in the business, he is the one that I am very close to so that's why they are targeting us."

Fitzroy Yearwood - Police Press Officer
"The police visited a house in the Los Lagos housing area where they observe the remains from a Green Ford Ranger pickup. It was obviously burnt. we know that Mario Galvez reported that he park the vehicle sometime around 9:30 on the 15th April. He was alerted by neighbors that the vehicle was on fire. This is sometime around 2:30 on the 16th and he call for the police. He is saying that this vehicle was in his custody but was actually owned by his sister Yolanda Schakron. We are investigating this. From the fire authorities, it would appear that this was arson. We will not speculate, this is a case of arson and we are investigating, that's all I will say on that."

The value of the vehicle is ten thousand dollars. Shakron told us today that her truck only had 3rd party insurance.
