A BGYEA Breakthrough

The Belize Grassroots Youth Empowerment Association BGYEA held a press conference in Belize city to give a general update on their affairs.

First, over 700 members have paid their survey fees, and only 100 plus are outstanding; they have until the end of the month to pay those fees.

But more importantly, the group says it is unified. The Valle Nuevo group which had challenged BGYEA's domain over the area has now made peace with BGYEA. That was the biggest news coming out of the press conference, and here it is:….

"We can simply say that there is only one association out there and that BGYEA. As I mention The Valle Nuevo group are now members of BGYEA. There is no separation; there is no two separate communities out there. It's harmony in Harmonyville."

"We could probably say today that we have settled those issues. We have realize the importance of coming together as a people and actually ensuring that our livity at Harmonyville is well put together."

As for the Memorandum of Understanding put forward by the ministry of natural resources and rejected by BGYEA, the group says it remains on the table and they want to meet with the ministry to discuss it.

And they are asking for government's help - not with the survey fees anymore, but with infrastructure, specifically streets, light and water. And speaking of water three wells were dug yesterday on the Harmonyville land and all of them were water bearing…..
