Ballistics
posted (May 13, 2011)
All this week, over 40 members of the Belize Police Department and the Belize National Forensic Science Service participated in a ballistics course facilitated by a specialist from the Mexican Federal Attorney General's Office. We were at the Police training academy in Belmopan for the closing today to find out who learned what:....

ACP Mike Segura
"We have several cases that I cannot mention to prevent integrity of some cases that we have done with the Mexicans and we try to use this same grounds as you mention to assist the police - the firearm was use in a series of crimes around the city."

Hector Piralta, Charge D' Affairs Mexico
"We think that having a stronger partner in all the institutional matters especially in security will have benefit both parties Belize and Mexico."

ACP Mike Segura
"We had a cross section of officers from the police investigators, we had the scenes of crime officers and we had the people from the forensic lab. Basically this course was mostly incline towards the forensic aspect with the lab. The primary focus is to arrive at the arena and preserve that crime scene but we need to be mindful that in those scenes in the person is still alive - primary is life, so the officers is try to preserve the life and transport him to the hospital. But in the absence of that we need to preserve a crime scene. May at times people trampling in the scenes and also we ask the media to respect the scene."

The course is the first of four courses included in the 7THTechnical and Scientific Cooperation Program Belize-Mexico 2010-2012.
