City Teenager Killed By Church Bus

A Belize City family is preparing to bury a male 15-year-old second form student who was knocked down and killed by a church bus last night.

It happened on Administration Drive in the Lake Independence Area, right in front of the CB Hyde Building. That's where the outdoor church called Impacto De Fe-La Uncion is based. Churchgoers were leaving at around 9:00 last night and getting ready to file into the church bus.

But when the driver started the bus, it lurched forward and crushed the teenager. We found out more from the pastor Samuel Lopez Avila:…

"The same time when he crank the bus, the bus axel get so high. Everybody was surprise at what happen."

What happened was 15 year old second former at Nazarene Wilmer Giron was standing in front of the bus and when it surged forward, it crushed him. His blood is still on the tire, and the marks in the drain show where the truck landed. It also smashed into the back of the Pastor's pickup.

"The bus hit him at then afterwards it ran over him when it reverses. They say when he came out he tried to sit down but he just went on a side. He couldn't hold up. I had expected that it wasn't really that bad but when I went to see him he was already dead. I couldn't even say my goodbyes to him or nothing, he was already fold-up."

But Wilmer Giron died valiantly

"A young girl that was supposedly his girlfriend and a young boy. As he sees the bus move he hurriedly pushes them out of the way. The bus hit him. My younger and my sister react quickly and they push my brother out of the way as well but he still broke his leg."

It was an accident, but the rage of bystanders' shows in the damages to the bus, and now the family only has the memory of the youngest in their family:

"I feel a little bit of everything; angry, sad. If I could give up my life for him to bring him back I would do it because he was my little brother."

"I am sorry for the family. I understand them, all of us have feelings. I understand but I know that the driver wouldn't do that."
