Belizeans For Justice; From Strength to Strength
posted (June 14, 2011)
After one year as a very high profile NGO - Belizeans For Justice has officially opened an office in Belize City. This morning ceremonies were held for the opening, and president Yolanda Schakron reflected on how far they have come as an organization:…

Yolanda Schakron - President, Belizeans For Justice
"This is open to the Belizean people. We are here to address any injustices that are committed against our people and we are here to fight for the rights of the Belizean people. I will be there every day because my business is downstairs. We have also hired a lady to help us for a couple of days. We have volunteers who will be coming in. I think it is something for the Belizean people that we needed for a while and I want to thank everyone who has helps us out there. This is very important for a democratic system to work. Right now we are facing a lot of injustices in this country. Our country seems to be in a crisis and I think we as Belizeans need to start standing up and uniting and we need to send a message to our government that a democratic system should be for the people, it's by the people and they are a servant of the people so I am so happy that we have reach this one year after we officially registered as an NGO we got to open our office."

"Lastly Mrs. Schakron, are you running for politics?"

Yolanda Schakron - President, Belizeans For Justice
"That's what I keep hearing on Wave Radio every day so I have not made a decision yet on anything like that but apparently Joe and Juliet know more than I do so kudos to them."

Monica Bodden
"But are you considering it?"

Yolanda Schakron - President, Belizeans For Justice
"Well i have thought about it somewhat. I need to speak to my children because you know I am a single mother and I have two children and they are the most important kids in my life right now and I need to continue my activism. I feel that for me fighting for the rights of the Belizean people is something that really gratifies me and I am really happy to do that. I will tell you Monica, God is the one who directs my path, I pray a lot and whatever he directs me to do that's where I will go."

Opening hours are Monday to Friday from nine to three. Belizeans for justice is also supporting three young children whose fathers have been murdered. They were all given a preschool scholarship this morning. The organization has committed to continue working with these children until they complete their high school education.
